Definition
Corrective action is action to eliminate the cause of a nonconformity and to prevent recurrence. It is taken after a nonconformity is detected.
Versus correction
Correction deals with the existing nonconforming situation (repair, rework, containment). Corrective action addresses underlying causes so the problem does not return.
Effectiveness
Actions should be reviewed for effectiveness using follow-up evidence — not closed only because a form was filled.
