Definition
A nonconformity is non-fulfillment of a requirement. Requirements may arise from standards, the organization's documented information, customers, or applicable obligations the system addresses.
In audits
Auditors raise nonconformities when evidence shows a requirement is not met. Classification as major/minor follows the auditing body's rules. Opportunities for improvement are not nonconformities.
Expected response
Correction of the instance, cause analysis as appropriate, corrective action to prevent recurrence, and verification of effectiveness.
