Same family, different outcomes
ISO 9001 specifies requirements for a quality management system focused on consistent products/services and customer satisfaction. ISO 14001 specifies requirements for an environmental management system focused on environmental aspects, impacts, compliance obligations, and environmental performance.
Both use a compatible high-level structure, which makes integration practical. Neither replaces the other.

Which should you pursue first?
Start with ISO 9001 when customer quality requirements dominate. Start with ISO 14001 when environmental permits, client EMS requirements, or significant environmental aspects dominate. Many industrial organizations implement both together.
Base the decision on interested-party requirements and risk, not on which certificate looks more impressive.

Shared processes: document control, internal audit programme, management review agenda, competence framework, nonconformity workflow. Distinct processes: quality operational controls versus environmental aspect evaluation and operational controls.
Avoid forcing environmental records into quality forms that obscure meaning.
Certification notes
You may seek separate or combined certification audits depending on CB capability. Beyond Carbon supports implementation for either or both; an independent CB issues certificates.
Consultancy vs certification
Beyond Carbon provides ISO consultancy, implementation support, documentation assistance, and audit preparation support. Independent certification bodies issue certificates after successful certification audits. Beyond Carbon does not present itself as a certification body or accreditation body.

FAQs
You typically receive certification against each standard, sometimes on a combined certificate document, following CB practice. Each standard's requirements must be met.
No. ISO 14001 is an environmental management system standard. Greenhouse gas quantification uses other methods/standards as applicable.
Not as its primary purpose. Environmental obligations may appear as applicable requirements if they affect products/services, but EMS discipline is ISO 14001's focus.
Often both appear in client requirements — quality for delivery and environment/HSE for site controls. Read each tender.
Yes. Many organizations run QHSE integrated systems. See also ISO 14001 vs ISO 45001.
Transition rules are set by accreditation/certification arrangements. Confirm timelines with your CB — do not rely on unverified deadlines.
